First Gallery Show

I had some art in a legit art gallery, y'all!

Ok, so it was a student show (meaning everything gets accepted) and it was a short exhibition (ran for less than two weeks), but hey - first time in a gallery! I'll take it! :)

A while back I had sculpted this torso during one of my figure sculpting sessions at The Art League. This particular one is modeled after James. I really liked it, so I learned how to make a silicone mold of it. I then cast it in hydrocal (basically like a stronger plaster) and painted it up nice and mounted it. I did all of that to try to get it into one of the juried shows that the The Art League puts on throughout the year over at The Torpedo Factory.

Sadly, I tired to get it into a couple of shows and it never got selected. I then sold it to my awesome and supportive housemate. But since I had this piece all finished and ready to show, when the student show came around, I figured I'd let the piece get a taste of the gallery life after all, haha. My housemate let me borrow it back for a couple of weeks and there you have it:

First time I had some of my own art in a real gallery. Hopefully not also the last.

Taking the torso home, and actual strangers milling about when it was on display for public viewing!
